Research Interests

Ahmed's research is focused on pore space characterization of micritic carbonates that is achieved through high-resolution imaging of epoxy pore casts. He uses different imaging techniques to capture pore space features across a range of scales. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is used to identify different types of microporosity, while confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) is used to quantify pore space features in 3D. With the 3D model, Ahmed uses digital rock physics approach to evaluate petrophysical properties, such as porosity, pore size distribution, and permeability.
